Attendance
Our school understands the importance of regular attendance for children's academic progress. Studies indicate that poor attendance can negatively impact a child's education and is closely linked to underachievement not only in primary education but also by the end of secondary school and in GCSE exams.
Both the Local Authority and the Government monitor school absence levels carefully. They keep track of students who miss more than 10 sessions (equivalent to 5 days) and will require explanations for these absences. Therefore, it's essential to inform us if your child needs to stay home and provide the reasons.
If your child is sick and cannot attend school, please notify the school office by 9:15 am on the day of the illness. The office will relay this information to your child's teacher. If we do not receive a notification about your child's absence, the school office will contact you to ensure everything is alright, as your child's safety is our priority.
For more details about attendance, you can visit the Government Website at this link: https://www.gov.uk/school-attendance-absence
Our school is not authorised to grant permission for holidays during term time. If families choose to take students out of school for a holiday, the Local Authority might issue a penalty notice and fine for each absent child. We encourage you to discuss any plans for term-time holidays with the school to avoid fines. In rare cases, schools may allow a leave of absence during term time for reasons other than holidays.
Where an absence is judged to be unavoidable, please complete a form to request time away from school. Please be aware that your child's attendance over the past 12 months will be considered when determining whether a fine may be levied. You can find a link to our form below.
