PE
Purpose of Study
A high-quality physical education curriculum inspires all pupils to succeed and excel in competitive sports and other physically demanding activities. It should provide opportunities for pupils to become physically confident in a way which supports their health and fitness. Opportunities to compete in sports and other activities build character and help to embed values such as fairness and respect.

Intent
Our intent in teaching Physical Education is to give children the tools and understanding required to have a positive impact on their own physical health and well-being. We want all children to experience a wide variety of sports and physical skills which will enhance life-long fitness and life choices. PE can challenge and promote self-esteem through the development of physical confidence and problem-solving. It can teach children to cope with both success and failure in competitive, individual and team-based physical activities. Whilst within dance, it will allow children to explore their personal and spiritual identity.
Through the teaching of P.E.-
-
We celebrate the cultural capital intent above by ensuring that pupils are taught P.E. through an enriched and supportive approach, thus enabling the progression of a wide variety of skills.
-
The curriculum is designed with the intention that every pupil can reach their potential in P.E.
-
Children will have equal opportunities to take part in a range of sports and physical activities within a supportive environment where effort as well as success are recognised.
-
Children are encouraged to participate in exercise throughout the day, during P.E. lessons, after-school clubs, outdoor learning, playtime provision and dedicated events.
-
Children are offered the opportunity to participate in sporting activities in line with their interests.
-
Children with additional needs are provided with appropriate support to enable them to take part and gain confidence in skills, understanding and motivation.
Implementation
Knowledge underpins and enables the application of skill. We strive for children to learn new skills alongside Knowledge, ensuring that both are explicitly developed.
Using the EYFS Statutory Framework and National Curriculum, age-appropriate progression in knowledge and skills for P.E. has been identified and mapped out across Key Stages in a two-year rolling programme.
Resources and planning from getset4education are used for planning PE and activity in line with the National Curriculum. Children will participate in curriculum-based P.E. lessons twice a week.
